ABOUT

Meet Our Makers is an artist interview podcast, produced in association with BeatsPerMinute, hosted by writer, editor, musician, and educator Jeremy J. Fisette.

In spring of 2020, when the world — for all intents and purposes — shut down, I thought about how I’d long wanted to start a podcast where I got to talk with artists about their work. As a lifelong music and movie fan, it was a little pipe dream I carried with me for years.

I always presumed I just “couldn’t do it.” But then it hit me: why not? I did a bit of research and quickly launched Meet Our Makers. I sent out dozens of email invitations, and as a new podcast with no history or credentials or testimonials or reviews, it was a little scary (and weirdly kind of embarrassing) to reach out to musicians, filmmakers, actors, writers, and — mostly — publicists who were not nearly as green as me.

Eventually, I got my first guest: Adam Wiltzie of Stars of the Lid. As a massive fan of that band — which Wiltzie shares with the late, great Brian McBride — I was thrilled and nervous that he, of all people, would be guest number one. I had a lot to figure out — how to research, craft questions, conduct the interview more like a conversation, be myself, and not get too starstruck — and you can probably hear a lot of the jitters on that first episode, a lot of the kinks I’d end up working out over the subsequent years.

But I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning, and I’ve been going ever since. It can be a bit of an unpredictable road — sometimes I get five guests lined up in a 2-week period, other times I’m lucky to get one “yes” in a given month — so new episodes haven’t come with any sense of routine or regularity. But I’ve embraced that spontaneity, and I am always profoundly grateful when someone agrees to, as I always say, come hang out for a while.

Check out the rest of the site for more, including all of my episodes, which are on Podbean, Spotify, Apple, and most other places you get your podcasts.

As always, thank you for listening.
